EXCLUSIVE: Protagonist has done good business on Lenny Abrahamson’s Toronto and London drama, which has opened strongly in Ireland.
Protagonist Pictures has sold Lenny Abrahamson’s third feature What Richard Did to UK (Artificial Eye), Australia (Madman Entertainment), France (Zed) and Scandinavia (Angel Films).
Abrahamson’s drama has grossed €165,625 after two weeks in Ireland and dropped only 5% from first to second weekend.
What Richard Did, about a Dublin teenager whose world crumbles after a devastating act, had its UK premiere at the London Film Festival this week and world premiered in Toronto’s Contemporary World Cinema programme in September.
Jack Reynor and Roisin Murphy star alongside Lars Mikkelsen (The Killing). Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney produces with Andrew Lowe executive-producing.
Protagonist director of sales Nada Cirjanic negotiated the deals with Angel Films, Zed and Madman, while Guiney and Lowe handling the sale to the UK. Artificial Eye has scheduled a January 2012 release.
Abrahamson previously directed the acclaimed Garage, which debuted in Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, and Adam And Paul, which played in Berlin Panorama.
Protagonist is also handling sales on Abrahamson’s next project Frank, to star Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson.
