Screen Media Films has acquired North American rights to John Gray’s coming-of-age story White Irish Drinkers.

The story follows working-class Brooklyn brothers whose involvement in a risky crime may be their only escape from their volatile Irish family. Screen Media has set a spring 2011 theatrical release.

Newcomers Nick Thurston, Geoff Wigdor and Leslie Murphy star alongside Stephen Lang, Karen Allen and Peter Riegert.

The film premiered in Toronto and won the audience award at the 2010 Woodstock Film Festival. It was nominated this week for the inaugural Gotham Genius Award.
