John Barker's comedy world premiered in Toronto and recently had its European premiere in Rotterdam 's Tiger Competition. The film is on release in South Africa from March 9, after already taking best actor and best new director awards at Sithengi in November 2006.
Bunny Chow follows three comedians as they travel to a rock concert. It stars Kagiso Lediga, David Kibuuka, Salah Sabiti, Joey Rasdien and Kim Engelbrecht. Barker and David Kibuuka wrote the script. Barker and Kagiso Lediga produced with Dv8's Jeremy Nathan and Joel Phiri executive producing.
The film is co-produced by Film I Vast and Republiken Films in Sweden, and SABC 2. South Africa 's National Film and Video Foundation, Ster-Kinekor Distribution, Magus Visual, Terraplane, and Ministry of Illusion are also partners on the project. Dv8 Films' new sales arm, Deviant Selling, is handling worldwide sales with MTV Films Europe.
'The film is really inventive,' Dogwoof managing director Andy Whittaker said. 'It's unique and is indicative of the emerging talent coming from South Africa.'
Nathan added: 'Dogwoof is a passionate company and has the right fit for our film. Several other deals are currently being closed.'
