Wu, who trained at the same Beijing martial arts school as Jet Li, most recently drew notice for his role as a cold-blooded killer in Wilson Yip's SPL, which was also sold internationally by Easternlight.
In Fatal Contact, which Easternlight will premiere at Berlin's European Film Market, Wu plays a traditional Chinese opera performer who is drawn into the underground boxing world by the girl he's in love with.
The film is directed by Dennis Law, who is Johnnie To's partner in Milkyway Image, and is produced by Hong Kong 's Gold Label, China Star and Point of View Production. Hong Kong stars Ronald Cheng, Miki Yeung, Theresa Fu and Andy On round out the cast.
'We have previously done very well with sales on SPL and hope to continue to deliver quality Asian action films like Fatal Contact to our international buyers,' said Easternlight director Ying Ye. 'This will only be possible by identifying outstanding performances like the one Wu Jing delivered in Fatal Contact.'
Launched at Berlin last year, Easternlight has picked up a slew of hot Asian titles including Shinya Tsukamoto's Nightmare Detective, which was recently sold to The Weinstein Company, Soi Cheang's gritty hitman thriller Dog Bite Dog and Berengar Pfahl's adaptation of best-selling Chinese novel Shanghai Baby, starring Bai Ling.
