The Edinburgh International FilmFestival (EIFF) announced that Carol Reed's 1947 film noir Odd Man Out will be the closing-night film at this year's 60thanniversary festival. The film opened the same year that the festival waslaunched, and a digitally restored version will be shown in
Also, the festival has added aspecial Mitchell Leisen retrospective for this year'sfestival, which runs Aug 14-27.
"Sophisticated, bisexual, andirreverent, Leisen was the journeyman director par excellence, who created a stringof box-office hits: screwball comedy classics like Easy Living and Midnight,powerful melodramas like Hold Back The Dawn, and even a stunning filmnoir, No Man Of Her Own; he also worked with major stars - Olivia deHavilland, Barbara Stanwick, Claudette Colbert,Carole Lombard," said EIFF artistic director Shane Danielsen."For all for these reasons, his rediscovery is overdue."
As previously announced, EIFFwill also host a retrospective dedicated to American cinema from the 1970s.Sean Connery is again serving as festival patron and will host a special anniversary party.
