The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced today that Edward Zwick has won the run-off race for the open Directors Branch seat on the 2009-2010 Board of Governors.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced today that Edward Zwick has won the run-off race for the open Directors Branch seat on the 2009-2010 Board of Governors.

It will mark Zwick’s first term on the board; he joins Martha Coolidge and Curtis Hanson as the third governor to represent the Directors Branch.

Zwick’s films include Glory, Blood Diamond, The Last Samurai, Legends Of The Fall, and most recently Defiance.

In the original voting, Zwick and Gil Cates had tied for a seat (a first in Academy history); the run-off ballots were due yesterday.
