LA-based Eleven Arts has acquired all US rights to Kevin Chu’s The Treasure Hunter from Taiwan’s Double Edge Entertainment.
The deal, which was sealed at the on-going Asian Film Market in Pusan, was brokered by Double Edge distribution and production executive, Steve Chicorel, and Eleven Arts president, Ko Mori.
The film was previously sold to Germany and Benelux (Splendid Film), UK and Canada (E1 Entertainment) and CIS and Baltics (CP Digital).
“I think we’ve surprised a lot of people on how we could find the right buyers for this Chinese-language film and Eleven Arts has some amazing plans for the US market including other unique Asian cinema,” said Chicorel. “We’re thrilled to the bone that our deal includes a wide spread theatrical release in urban USA.”
Produced by Taiwan’s Chang Hong production house, the film stars Taiwanese idol Jay Chou and Lin Chi-ling (Red Cliff).
China Film Group released it across mainland China last December, simultaneously with Hong Kong’s Emperor Motion Pictures, Taiwan’s CMC and Scorpio East in South-East Asia.
