EXCLUSIVE: Hong Kong-based Emperor Motion Pictures (EMP) has closed a trio of deals on Jiang Wen’s blockbuster Let The Bullets Fly including a sale to Amuse Soft in Japan.
The genre-bending action adventure, which is China’s highest-grossing local film with takings of $100m, has also sold to the UK’s Kaleidoscope and Vendetta for Australia and New Zealand.
Starring Chow Yun-fat, Jiang Wen and Ge You, the film revolves around a bandit who usurps the position of a country governor and ends up in a fatal power struggle with local gentry. On the surface a rip-roaring action adventure, the film is also a satire with witty dialogue. It was produced by EMP and Beijing Buyilehu Film.
“Let The Bullets Fly is rather unique in its genre and we were very confident that the screening would help seal the deal for many of our international distribution partners. The response has been very good so far and we’re very close to announcing our partners for Germany, North America and French-speaking territories very soon,” said EMP CEO Albert Lee.
