Spanish director Enrique Gato is beginning production on the 3D animation feature Tadeo Jones, based on his own short films of the same name

The film is a co-production between El Toro Films, Ikiru Films and Lightbox Entertainment in Spain and Conspiracao Filmes in Brazil.

Jordi Gasull, head of El Toro Films, said: “We have a completed script, written by Enrique [Gato], and have begun work on the animation.”

Gato’s film will follow on from his 2004 short Tadeo Jones, which picked up a Goya award, and the 2007 sequel Tadeo Jones And The Basement Of Doom. The latter told the story of a young guy who has to rescue a dog from an underground temple in South America where animals are sacrificed to Gods.

“I am working with Nicolas Matji of Lightbox, who produced the two short films, as well as Andrucha Waddington at Conspiracao and Ikiru Films,” adds Gasull. “We have already completed three minutes of the film and hope to have it released in 2011.”

Gasull is also working with Conspiracao Filmes and Ikiru on Andrucha Waddington’s film Lope De Vega about the famous Spanish playwright and poet, which is currently shooting in Spain.
