Montreal-based productioncompanies Equinoxe Films and Milagro Films have signed on as coproducers ofCarlos Saura Medrano's upcoming psychological thriller Secrets alongside Madrid-based Zebra Producciones, theproduction outfit of Antonio Saura. Saura, who wrote the screenplay, and SauraMedrano are sons of veteran Spanish auteur Carlos Saura.
The Euros 3mEnglish-language project is set to shoot in Quebec and Spain next year.Equinoxe senior vice president and COO Michael Mosca and Milagro's Jean-MarcFello initially met Antonio Saura during the 2005 Toronto International FilmFestival and then cemented the deal at the 2006 edition's Canada-Spaincoproduction match club.
The story follows Lucia, aSpanish doctor interning at a Montreal hospital whose life is turned upsidedown by the sudden and inexplicable disappearance of her long-time boyfriend.Tortured by his absence and traumatised by the complete absence of information,she begins to experience visions of the spirit of a young girl. The visionslead her to a remote village in the search for some clue to his whereabouts.But the villagers make it clear that an outsider, especially a curious one,will not be tolerated.
Zebra has produced suchtitles as Saura Sr.'s Salome (2002) and and Miguel Albadalejo's Rencor (2002) while Equinoxe recentlyproduced Un Dimanche A Kigali.Milagro produced the Canada-UK co-production Jericho Mansions (2003).
