Veteran Swedishactor Erland Josephson will be the subject of a tribute at the 2003 MontrealWorld Film Festival. The 80-year-old star of stage and screen, best known forhis long collaboration with compatriot Ingmar Bergman, will be presented withthe Special Prize of the Americas for career achievement.

A selection ofhis films will be screened. Josephon has featured in 13 Bergman titlesincluding Hour Of The Wolf (1968), The Passion Of Anna (1969), Cries And Whispers (1972), Scenes From A Marriage (1973), Fanny And Alexander (1982), After The Rehearsal (1984) and In The Presence Of A Clown(1997).

His films with otherdirectors include Liliana Cavani's Beyond Good And Evil (1977), Dusan Makavejev's Montenegro (1981), Andrei Tarkovsky's The Sacrifice (1986), Philip Kaufman's The UnbearableLightness Of Being, 1988), Peter Greenaway's Prospero'sBooks (1991) and Theo Angelopoulos Ulysses' Gaze (1995).

Josephson was the artistic director atSwedish Royal Drama Theatre during the 1960s and 1970sand peformed in stage productions internationally. He hasalso written several screenplays and directedthree films.
