Eros International is planning a worldwide release for hard-hitting Pakistani drama Bol, directed by Shoaib Monsoor, who previously directly Khuda Kay Liye.
The social drama is set in Lahore and explores the plight of women who are treated as a burden to families in many sectors of Pakistani society. It tells the story of a daugther who stands up against societal norms.
Eros plans to release the film worldwide on May 20. The move is unusual as the Indian and Pakistani film industries rarely collaborated until a few years ago, and Pakistani films are not usually considered commercial or high-profile enough for global release.
However, Mansoor’s Khuda Kay Liye, about how two Pakistani brothers are affected by 9/11, was released in India and created interest internationally.
Bol is produced by Pakistan’s Geo Films and Shoman Productions and stars Pakistani actress Humaima Malick in the lead along with Atif Aslam, Iman Ali, Mahira Khan, Manzar Sehbai and Shafaqat Cheema.
Baqir Abbas wrote the background score and the film also features songs by Pakistani artistes such as Atif Aslam, Hadeeqa Kiyani, Sajjad Ali, Shabnam Majeed, Ahmad Jahanzeb and Shuja Haider.
