Indian film powerhouse Eros International and retail giant Wal-Mart have announced a collaboration to sell Bollywood content through the latter's distribution network in Canada.
Eros DVDs will be available in 27 Wal-Mart stores in Canada and the distribution deal will subsequently be extended to the entire Canadian Wal-Mart network.
One of the leading players in the Indian media and entertainment sector, Eros will gradually make a large number of titles from its catalogue of over 1,300 titles as well as its 30-40 new releases every year available through Wal-Mart and take the content across to a mainstream audience.
Ken Naz, president, USA, Eros International, said: 'Canada is a very important market for us, for cinema as well as DVD distribution. We are very excited to be working with Wal-Mart in Canada as it will enable widespread availability of quality DVDs at affordable prices to consumers.'
Wal-Mart has stores in the US, South America, Latin America, China, Canada, Japan, and the UK with plans to launch in India in late 2008.
Eros International's other businesses include global distribution, motion pictures, music, home entertainment, e-television, new media and animation.
