The feature directorial debut of Fernando Urdapilleta, the Mexico City wunderkind behind short film sensation Cosita Linda, will receive its world premiere at the 30th Guadalajara Film Festival (FICG30).
Estrellas Solitarias (Lonely Stars) premieres on March 10 and will screen in the Mezcal competition and the Maguey LGBTT programme during the event, which runs from March 6-15 in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
Urdapilleta is a graduate of Mexico’s highly regarded Centro de Capacitacion Cinematografica (CCC) and is hotly tipped after his 2008 thesis film and vagina dentata fable Cosita Linda earned a cult following when it played at more than 60 festivals.
Estrellas Solitarias is backed by Foprocine (Mexican Fund for Quality Cinema) and is a comedy-drama about drag queens in Mexico City. Dana Karvelas and Jorge Arriaga lead the cast.
Henner Hoffman and Karla Bukantz produced and the executive producers are Antonio Urdapilleta and Alejandra Garcia.
Urdapilleta has finished his second feature, the crime thriller Los Reyes Del Juego.
