The BAFTAs have announced the nominees for the second-annual Orange Rising Star Award.
This year’s recognised talents are Ben Whishaw (Perfume), Cillian Murphy (The Wind That Shakes The Barley and Batman Begins), Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada), Eva Green (Casino Royale) and Naomie Harris (Miami Vice and Pirates Of TheCaribbean2).
The award honour young international actors and actresses who demonstrate talent (in a feature film eligible for this year’s BAFTAs) and have attracted attention as a star in the making. It is not intended as a pure beginner’s award. It was created in honour of the late casting director Mary Selway.
A long list of potential nominees was devised by the film industry and BAFTA members. An industry jury including last year’s winner James McAvoy then selected the five nominees.
The British public votes on the winner via the Orange website (orange.co.uk/bafta) or via text message. The winner is announced at the BAFTA ceremony Feb 11.
