Fandango Portobello has seen chaotic interest in Competition title Quiet Chaos (Caos Calmo).

The Italian drama, directed by Antonello Grimaldi and sarring Nanni Moretti and Valeria Golino, has sold to nine territories ahead of official Competition screening tomorrow. Deals have been struck with France (BAC), Spain (Alta), Benelux (Cineart), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Canada (Seville), Portugal (Midas), South Korea (Jin Jin), Brazil (Imovision) and Israel (Lev).

Janine Gold, former executive at Celluloid Dreams, is Fandango Portobello's new head of sales and she is in advanced discussions on other key territories.

Fandango's Domenico Procacci produced Quiet Chaos, which also stars Isabella Ferrari, Alessandro Gassman and Hippolyte Girardot. Moretti wrote the screenplay, adapted from Sandro Veronesi's bestseller, with Lauro Paolucci and Francesca Piccolo.

Quiet Chaos is about a successful executive and family man who has unusual ways of coping with his wife's death.

The Fandango production is also backed by RAI Cinema in association with Portobello Pictures and Phoenix Film Investment.

01 Distribution opened the film Feb 8 in Italy, where it topped the box office.

UK-based Portobello Pictures and Italy's Fandango joined forces for the combined sales outfit in Cannes 2007.

'We work quite closely with two production companies. This is about the producers wanting to play a closer role in following the films and how they are launched into the marketplace,' Gold told ScreenDaily.com. 'It also makes the distributors feel better about being closer to the production itself.'

Fandango Portobello is now concentrating on films produced or executive produced by Procacci or Portobello's Eric Abraham, but may expand its offerings eventually.
