Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills will receive its world premiere as opening night film on Sept 19 in Austin. Aldamisa International handled sales outside the US, where Open Road will release the film on Oct 4.

The action film starring Danny Trejo will screen at the new Alamo Drafthouse Lakeline site with Trejo, Alexa Vega and Rodriguez scheduled to attend alongside additional talent.

“Every year we compile our dream targets for opening night film; Machete Kills was at the top of that list,” said Fantastic Fest co-founder and creative director Tim League. “We are going to pull out all the stops to ensure Robert’s world premiere red carpet experience is literally blood red.”

Fantastic Fest is set to run from Sept 19-26.
