Universal Pictures’ action thriller has become the fastest film to reach $500m worldwide in the studio’s history and should reach $600m within the week.
Studio top brass announced on Thursday [6] that the film had crossed the $500m marker as the action thriller climbed to $522.5m, of which $342.2m comes from international markets and $180.3m from North America.
Fast & Furious 6 scored Universal’s biggest international, North American and global opening weekend recently and raced to number one in all 60 territories as it secured top berth at the global box office for two weeks.
Universal set a new company speed record when it crossed $1bn at the international box office on May 31, the seventh consecutive year it has accomplished the feat.
