Krisztina Laszlo

Senior sales manager, Bankside Films

  • Earned a master’s degree in international cultural policy and management from the University of Warwick
  • Interned as a film journalist at Cannes and Venice film festivals
  • First worked for Bankside Films as sales and acquisitions assistant in 2016

Taking a year away from sales company Bankside Films to work at social impact distributor Together Films gave Laszlo “a more holistic understanding” of the industry. She was lured back to her “absolute passion” of international sales with a promotion, rejoining Bankside in January this year, and credits managing director Stephen Kelliher for teaching her “the ins-and-outs of the business, the art of pitching and the ever-changing trends of the international market”.

Laszlo is currently selling titles including Terence Davies’ Benediction, Film4 and BFI-backed Brian And Charles, and Mary Harron’s Salvador Dali biopic Dali Land starring Ezra Miller and Ben Kingsley. “A more targeted international sales strategy and awareness of the distributors’ challenges are crucial,” notes Hungary-born Laszlo. “It’s becoming a necessity for sales agents to develop, produce and executive produce their own content.”

Lessons she has learned along the way include: keep calm and confident; learn from mistakes to grow professionally; and “how important choosing a good glass of rosé after a successful market is!”
