Directors Cynthia Wade and Sharon Liese sat down with Screen to discuss their documentary short The Flagmakers from National Geographic Documentary Films.
The film focuses on the employees of Eder Flag in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, which sews and ships five million American flags a year. It follows the flagmakers - locals, immigrants and refugees – asking the question, what does the American flag represent in a changing nation?
Cynthia Wade’s 2008 film Freeheld won the Oscar for best documentary short in 2008, and she was nominated again in 2013 for Mondays At Racine. Co-director Sharon Liese’s previous films include 2015 documentary The Gnomist which was screened at Tribeca and acquired by CNN Films.
