In his own words, Rob Drummond is greedy. The multidisciplined writer, whose résumé spans a multitude of acclaimed theatre projects and television credits, has always wanted to do everything. At least write everything.

“I trained to be a professional wrestler, I’ve done magic stage shows, I’ve done dance,” Drummond laughs. “I want to try everything and see what lands and what doesn’t.”

Based with his family in Loughborough, England, after moving from Rutherglen in southern Glasgow, Drummond is juggling several writing projects. His first film credit is as a co-writer on writer/director Rodger Griffiths’ feature debut Kill, after Glasgow-based production banner Synchronicity Films (The Cry, Only You, The Party’s Just Beginning) brought him on board. It centres on three brothers whose attempt to despatch their violent father while on a hunting expedition sparks a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.

Synchronicity brought the concept to Drummond and asked him to shape Griffiths’ initial script. “I really enjoyed working with Rodger,” Drummond says. “I love the writing process with a team, and Synchronicity was really collaborative.”

Los Angeles-based Wild Sheep Content is co-producing the Synchronicity and Mr. B Films production, which has financing from Library Pictures International and the UK’s Great Point Media, along with support from Screen Scotland and Northern Ireland Screen. Kill stars Brian Vernel, Daniel Portman, Calum Ross and Paul Higgins.

For the small screen, Drummond is developing original crime drama The Novice with Freedom Scripted Entertainment for the BBC, developed via Screen Scotland, BBC Drama Commissioning and BBC Writersroom’s Scottish drama writers’ programme. He also has unnamed TV projects with Glasgow’s Two Rivers Media and London’s Mam Tor Productions.

“It’s a lovely problem I have at the moment because of the way the TV work is taking off. If anything, I’ve got too much work and I have to select what I do, which is painful because I’m greedy and I love the process.” Drummond’s credits also include an episode entitled ‘A Billion Beats’ for Mammoth Screen’s ITV crime drama McDonald & Dodds.

For theatre, he has a commission with the Royal Shakespeare Company and a Roald Dahl adaptation at Perth Theatre on the go. “I’m winding down my theatre work a bit because I really want a career in film and TV writing,” Drummond notes.
