Need to know: Element Pictures is a film and TV powerhouse, with offices in Dublin, Belfast and London, an Irish theatrical and VoD distribution arm, and arthouse cinemas in Dublin and Galway. Fremantle acquired a majority stake in the company earlier this month. It was Standout credits include the multiple award-winners Lenny Abrahamson’s Room, Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Favourite and Joanna Hogg’s The Souvenir: Part II, and TV series Normal People and Conversations With Friends. They work regularly with partners BBC Film, A24 and Searchlight. Fremantle acquired a majority stake in the company just ahead of Cannes, which sees Lorenzo De Maio become a strategic advisor and partner across the slate.

Incoming: Hogg’s The Eternal Daughter, Sebastian Lelio’s The Wonder, Lanthimos’s Poor Things and Stephen Williams’ Chevalier are all in post. Joe Talbot’s The Governesses, starring Lily-Rose Depp, will shoot later this year in Barcelona, while The Lost Children Of Tuam, written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, will shoot in Ireland. The latter is the true story of the deaths of hundreds of babies at a mother-and-baby home in County Galway. Element has other projects in late development including new features with Lanthimos and Rungano Nyoni, and the directorial debut of French actress Ariane Labed.
