Need to know: Komplizen Film was founded in 1999 by Janine Jackowski and Maren Ade, with Jonas Dornbach joining as managing director and producer in 2010. The Berlin-based company’s eclectic output has included Ade’s three features to date (The Forest For The Trees, Everyone Else and the Oscar-nominated Toni Erdmann), as well as films by directors as diverse as Jasmila Zbanic (Love Island), Pablo Larrain (Spencer) and Nicolette Krebitz (A E I O U — A Quick Alphabet Of Love). Komplizen is also a co-producer on Marie Kreutzer’s latest feature Corsage, which will premiere in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard. The company stepped into TV with 2019 Netflix show Skylines, made through its TV arm Komplizen Series. It is a member of The Creatives production alliance of independent companies for collaboration on high-end drama series and films.

Incoming: Komplizen’s third feature film with writer/director Sonja Heiss, When Will It Finally Be Like It Never Was Again, is in post-production. Shooting is scheduled to continue later this year on the co-production of Lisandro Alonso’s Eureka, and Komplizen is a production partner with France’s Memento Films on Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s On Barren Weeds. Komplizen Series’ development slate includes Christian Schwochow’s Fck My Heritage and Mia Hansen-Love’s The Flame, with France’s CG Cinéma.
