Need to know: It is an exciting time for The Bureau, the production outfit founded in 2000 by French executive Bertrand Faivre, with UK producer Tristan Goligher joining in 2010. The company has always championed distinct voices across low and high budgets, with defining credits including Roger Michell’s Le Week-end, Andrew Haigh’s 45 Years, Aleem Khan’s After Love and Jessica Hausner’s Little Joe, the latter a co-production with Coop99 Filmproduktion (Austria) and Essential Filmproduktion (Germany). Several UK TV projects are in development at The Bureau, while in France it has recently acquired TV documentary production company Folamour Productions and is forming a partnership with Jean Bréhat, French filmmaker Bruno Dumont’s producer. The Bureau also has a sales arm based in Paris.

Key personnel: Bertrand Faivre, Tristan Goligher, Matthieu de Braconier, producers; Gerardine O’Flynn, head of production; Valentina Brazzini, head of development; Vincent Gadelle, head of legal and business affairs.

Incoming: The Bureau is wrapping on The Sitting Duck, starring Isabelle Huppert, and a feature-length documentary on tax evasion with Wild Bunch titled Tax Me If You Can. In post is Nathaniel Martello-White’s The Strays, The Bureau’s first Netflix production. In development is an adaptation of Max Porter’s book Lanny with Rachel Weisz, as well as new titles with Harry Wootliff and Haigh.

Bertrand Faivre says: “The theatrical experience has become more of a rarity. We have just co-produced feature-length documentary The Velvet Queen, and it requires a cinema experience. We have to make sure the quality and distinctiveness of what we produce matches the need for people to go to the cinema.”
