Fantasia’s international co-production market to take place in Brussels in 2014.

Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival has announced the expansion of its Frontières International Co-Production Market to Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF).

Frontières will now become a circuit between Montreal and Brussels, starting with their respective 2013 and 2014 editions. Different projects will be presented at each edition.

The expansion comes as a result of a strategic partnership between Fantasia, BIFFF and Vision-in-Motion that secured funding from the MEDIA Mundus programme of the European Commission. Frontières is the only new initiative to be funded by the programme, which supports the cooperation between audiovisual professionals in Europe and the rest of the world, this year.

Stephanie Trepanier, Frontières’ market director, told Screen: “Media Mundus’ great enthusiasm in supporting the expansion of Frontières’ reach is proof that we have put together an event that is useful to the film industry. I’m looking forward to the market being the generator of many new American and European partnerships that will see more quality genre films getting produced and released.”

The lineup for this year’s market at Fantasia will be announced on May 7 and will include 12 projects from Quebec and Canada, Europe and the US. Frontières is the first and only co-production market to connect North America with Europe, in an environment specifically focused on genre film production.

Frontières is part of the Fantasia Industry Rendez-Vous, which will run July 25-28 during this year’s Fantasia which takes place from July 18-Aug 6.
