The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival has unveiled the first programming details for this year’s edition, including a retrospective devoted to Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve.

This will be the first KVIFF under the artistic direction of Karel Och; his predecessor with Eva Zaoralova is still involved in programming as Artistic Consultant.

“Denis Villeneuve, Sam Fuller and the young Greek directors all have one thing in common: in their unique body of work, a highly personal approach shapes strong statements about society, both decades ago and now. These are filmmakers who surpass expectations and are unafraid of shaking conventions,” says Och.

“Through an edgy programme that thrives on taking chances, KVIFF aims to nurture cinephilia by giving exposure to original storytellers who have - and still are - passionately struggling to bring their vision.”

Canada’s Villeneuve will attend KVIFF where his films including Maelstrom, Polythechnique, Incendies and award-winning shorts will be shown.

The Fuller programme will include 10 titles such as The Steel Helment, Shock Corridor, Pickup on South Street and The Naked Kiss.

In the Greek spotlight, selected works include Dogtooth, Attenberg, Strella, Tale 52, and Plato’s Academy.

The 46th KVIFF runs July 1-9.
