Blancanieves wins special jury prize, Trueba’s The Artist And The Model wins best director.
Macaraena García in Blancanieves won as Best Actress ex-aequo with Katie Coseni for Laurent Cantet’s Foxfire. José Sacristán won as best actor for The Dead Man and Being Happy.
The Prize for best Cinematography went to Touraj Aslani for Rhino Season directed by Bahman Ghobadi.
In the Kutxa-New Directors competition, the winner was Fernando Guzzoni’s Carne De Perro, with special mentions to Majid Barzegar’s Parviz and Adrian Saba’s El Limpiador.
The Horizontes Award went to Armando Bo’s El Ultimo Elvis. Special Mentions went to Marcelo Gomes’ Once Upon A Time Was Veronica and Michel Franco’s After Lucia.
US drama The Sessions, written and directed by Ben Lewin has won the audience award worth $77000.
Based on the true story of disabled poet Mark O’Brien, it tells his relationship with a prositute he hired to lose virginity. John Hawkes and Helen Hunt star. The prize will go to Fox, which releases the film in Spain.
The second prize was for Ken Loach’s The Angels’ Share and is worth $25,000 for the film’s Spanish distributor Alta Classics.
The Fipresci prize, awarded by international critics, has gone to Javier Rebollo’s The Dead Man and Being Happy. A very peculiar road movie, it tells the travel around Argentina of a serial killer sick with cancer who makes bizarre encounters along the way.
Other prizes include the Prize Esukalte Jury Prize to 7 Boxes, a film from Paraguay directed by Juan Carlos Maneglia and Tana Schembori.
A winner of last year’s Films in Progress section, it’s a thriller with a touch of humour about a street peddler who has to transport seven boxes.
The TVE Another Look Award has gone to the Israeli title Six Acts, directed by Jonathan Gurfinkel. A special mention came for Ziad Doueiri’s The Attack, a co-production between Lebanon, France, Qatar and Belgium. The prize signifies the acquisition of TV rights by TVE with an amount to be negotiated between both parts.
Among the other prizes, the Signis award went to Fishing Days by Carlos Sorín. The Prize of the blood association of Guipuzcoa went to Capital, by Costa Gavras, and the Sebastiane Prize to Joven & Alocada, by Marialy Rivas.
