Harry Potter And TheOrder Of The Phoenix, the fifthinstallment of the Warner Bros. franchise, will be released simultaneously inconventional and IMAX cinemas next summer.
Warner Bros. and IMAX areconsidering converting parts of the film into IMAX 3D, according to GregFoster, chairman and president of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. The third Pottertitle to be converted for thelarge-format market, the film opens July 13, 2007.
In a statement, Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution at WarnerBros. Pictures said, 'The Harry Potter series has been a huge success in IMAX theatres, and weare delighted to combine this next exciting installment with The IMAXExperience to offer Harry Potter fansanother magical adventure for 2007...The IMAX theatre network is a proven sourceof incremental revenue that we believe will grow exponentially as more IMAXtheatres continue to open around the world.'
IMAX co-chairmen and co-CEOsBrad Wechsler and Richard Gelfond pointed to the change in seasons as a boon. 'We're delighted to be working with Warner Bros.Pictures on our 2007 film slate this early in the year... This new title gives usa powerful kick-start to next year's film slate.'
The fourth installment inthe series, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire: The IMAX Experience, released in November 2005, grossed more than $20m inIMAX cinemas worldwide. The third installment, Harry Potter And The PrisonerOf Azkaban: The IMAX Experience,released in June 2004, grossed $14m in IMAX worldwide.
