Company will introduce the project to distributors at AFM.
Vicente Canales’ Film Factory will handle sales of Caníbal, the new film by Spanish director Manuel Martín Cuenca [pictured] (The Weakness of The Bolshevik) with a script by Alejandro Hernández, with whom he also co-wrote Oscar’s Half.
Film Factory will introduce Caníbal to international distributors at the American Film Market, which starts this Wednesday (Oct 31) and runs to Nov 7 in Santa Monica, California.
Caníbal, in pre-production, participated in Cinemart (Rotterdam Projects Festival) and was one of the 15 titles selected at the Atelier de la Cinéfondation at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, with the project well-received at both.
The film is a production of MOD Producciones (Agora, Biutiful, FIN) and La Loma Blanca (Oscar’s Half). It will begin shooting in early 2013 and the project has been developed with the support of Media, Ibermedia, ICAA and Junta de Andalucía.
Antonio de la Torre (The Last Circus, I’m So Excited) will star in the thriller that mixes Hitchcock and Buñuel influences. It tells the story of Carlos, a successful tailor from Granada who has a happy life but hides a dark secret: he enjoys eating people. One day he meets Nina, the twin sister of a woman he already killed years ago.
