The Spanish company has taken international sales rights to Javier Ruiz Caldera’s family comedy and will introduce to buyers on the Croisette.
Currently in pre-production and based on a script by Cristobal Garrido and Adolfo Valor, Ghost Graduation tells the story of a teacher who suffers from spectral visions which have bothered him from the age of 15. One day he is put in charge of five troubled pupils who have specific issues relevant to him – they are all dead.
Production duties are split between Mod Producciones, the team behind Agora and Oscar nominee Biutiful, Ikiru Films (Lope) and Ciskul and Think Studio, who produced Caldera’s previous comedy Spanish Movie, which made an impressive $11m in Spain and sold all over the world through Filmax.
The film is set to begin principal photography in June with a top-level Spanish cast that includes Raul Arevalo (Cousinhood, Even The Rain) and Alejandra Jimenez (Spanish Movie), with more key names to be revealed soon.
“When I read the script of Ghost Graduation I was very surprised about the great and original concept,” said Vicente Canales, head of Film Factory. “This is a film that can travel and I am sure our distributors will be onboard such a unique film.”
He added, “It is not a typical Spanish comedy, but instead more of a family film which will have incredible special effects and is already attracting the interest of some distributors.”
Ghost Graduation is expected to be delivered by summer 2012.
