Spain's growing mini-studio The Filmax Group has joined with post-production laboratory Filmtel and a Galician capital risk fund to launch animation producer Bren Entertainment.
The new outfit, which describes itself as an 'animation factory', will service both Filmax-originated projects as well as those from other producers from both Spain and abroad.
Filmax owns 58% of the venture and Filmtel 30% with the capital risk fund - Xes Galicia - holding a 12% share. The three partners have invested about $6.9m (PTS1.1bn) in the venture which aims to produce up to 65 hours of animation a year for both feature films and television series. The company is housed in a newly-constructed, 1,200 square meter studio located in the Galician city of Santiago de Compostela.
Bren projects in pre-production include: action-hero feature film Capitan Trueno, to be directed by Juanma Bajo Ulloa; children's film Manolito Gafotas II and animated TV series Goomer And Lola Y Sus Hermanas (Lola And Her Sisters).
