The injection of funding will go towards sustaining FilmClub’s activities in UK schools until March next year.
The BFI has awarded £2.5m to education charity FilmClub to support its activity in 7000 primary and secondary schools across the UK until 31 March 2013.
FilmClub was set up by Lindsay Mackie and Beeban Kidron in 2008 to help schools set up and run film clubs where young people can watch and review a diverse range of global films.
The charity recently expanded into Northern Ireland and Wales, picking up funding from the Film Agency Wales and the Welsh Government for a tailor made programme in Wales and from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL) through Northern Ireland Screen for its Northern Ireland roll out.
