FilmFlex and Virgin Media have announced a new partnership to drive the development of the state-of-the-art technology which powers Virgin Movies.
Under the new agreement, FilmFlex will invest in the development, roll-out and management of next generation video-on-demand (VoD) services, as well as procuring and curating film content for Virgin Movies.
Initial product developments planned for this year include the introduction of multi-device playback through Virgin TV Anywhere, Virgin Media’s cloud-based entertainment service, allowing greater freedom to watch film content.
FilmFlex and Virgin Media also plan to work together on the further development of the movies-on-demand service offered on Virgin Media TiVo.
“This milestone partnership with Virgin Media will see the creation and development of brilliant new applications to evolve Virgin Movies over the coming years,” commented Jeff Henry [pictured], CEO, FilmFlex Movies.
“There has never been such an exciting time for the video-on-demand business and we are delighted to be extending our relationship with Virgin Media with whom we have had a long and successful collaboration.”
Aleks Habdank, director of digital entertainment product at Virgin Media added: “As the home to the greatest choice of films on TV, Virgin Media is always looking to develop new ways to bring our customers the very best, most recent content whenever they want and wherever they are.
“FilmFlex, as experts in movies-on-demand, are key strategic partners for us as the growth of digital entertainment continues apace and we look forward to the next exciting chapter of working together”.
FilmFlex, a joint venture between Sony Pictures Television and The Walt Disney Company EMEA, has managed the VoD film service on Virgin Media since 2005, with over 80 million buys to date.
