Buenos Aires based sales company FilmSharks International has sold Rodrigo Pla's Critic's Week title The Desert Within to Distrimax for the US.
Pla's second feature, following last year's Venice and Toronto award winner La Zona, is an anti-religious parable, which swept the main awards in the Mexican section of the Guadalajara film festival in March.
FilmSharks has also done deals with Argentinian producers Patagonik to sell Paula Hernandez' film Rain, which has been picked up by Buena Vista Latin America, and with producers Panamax and Jazz Films' for Rodrigo Ortuzar's Mexico-Chile drama All Inclusive, starring Jesus Ochoa (Man On Fire), which it has sold to Universal for Mexico and Chile.
Other deals include the sale of Chilean drama Desierto Sur to Goliath Distribution for Mexico, French-Indonesian film The Photograph to Epicente Films for France and Movie Mobz for Brazil, Ed Radcke's The Speed Of Life and Conrad Clark's Soul Carriage have also been sold to Movie Mobz for Brazil, Ricardo Darin and Martin Hodara's Argentinian drama The Sign to Pioniwa Film for Japan.
The Sign, Soul Carriage and The Speed Of Life have also been sold to Alliance Lumiere India, and Rodrigo Furth's Through Your Eyes for Spain and Portugal to Civite Films.
FilmSharks has also sold Pay TV rights for all Latin America for Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez' state run TV Telesur, which includes a package of nine films.
