Focus Features International (FFI) and UTA have virtually sold out on Mike Mills’ Toronto premiere Beginners starring Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer.

FFI acquired worldwide rights at Toronto in a deal brokered by UTA. The companies have jointly closed a deal with Universal, which acquired the film for the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Latin America and other markets.

Rights also closed for Scandinavia (Svensk) and Benelux (Wild Bunch). UTA previously closed deals with MK2 in France and Hopscotch in Australia.

McGregor plays a talent designer who reflects on his late father’s coming-out as he tries to navigate his way through a relationship with a French actress.

“This is a movie that can play well both in the US and internationally as well,” FFI head Alison Thompson said. “We’ve had a fantastic time selling the movie.”
