Focus Features International and Quad will co-produce French-language romantic comedy Heartbreaker
Pascal Chaumeil (Fais pas ci, fais pas ça) is directing the film, which is written by Laurent Zeitoun (Prête-moi ta main), Jeremy Doner, and Yohan Gromb. Duval Adassovsky and Yann Zenou of Quad and Zeitoun are producing.
The cast includes Romain Duris (The Beat That My Heart Skipped, Russian Dolls) and Vanessa Paradis (The Girl on the Bridge, Elisa). Duris plays Alex, charmer and ladies’ man, who is hired by family members to break up unsuitable love matches. His success rate is threatened when he is hired to split up the perfect couple.
Universal Pictures International holds French theatrical and home video distribution rights to the project, while Grégoire Melin at Kinology is representing all other international rights.
The co-production is being overseen by Duval Adassovsky and Zenou and by Focus Features International’s Clare Wise, executive vice president of international production, and JJ Lousberg, director of European creative.
“Heartbreaker is indicative of the calibre of local productions that we will be partnering on in France,” said Christian Grass, co-CEO of Focus Features International.
Following Joann Sfar’s Gainsbourg, je t’aime, moi non plus, which is currently in post-production, Heartbreaker marks the second French film that Focus Features International is co-producing.
Heartbreaker, which started shooting last month on location in Monaco, Paris, and Morocco, will be released in France in 2010.
