Fortissimo Films has acquired worldwide rights outside of Taiwan, Hong Kong and China to award-winning Taiwanese drama Touch Of The Light, produced by Wong Kar Wai’s Jet Tone Films.

Directed by Chang Jung-chi, the film is based on the real life experiences of blind piano prodigy, Huang Yu-siang, who plays himself in the film. Sandrine Pinna (Miao Miao) plays a young girl who dreams of becoming a dancer and is inspired by Huang.

The film premiered at the Taipei International Film Festival last month where it picked up the audience award and best actress for Pinna’s performance. Warner Bros will give the film a wide release in Taiwan in late September, ahead of a roll-out across Asia in early 2013. The film has also been invited to several other international film festivals.

Presented by Wong Kar Wai, the film is produced by his Jet Tone and Block 2 Pictures along with Sil-Metropole Organization. Jacky Pang and Cheung Hong-Tat produced with Chan Ye-Cheng and Song Dai serving as executive producers.

Touch Of The Light marks our continued effort in discovering new talents,” said Pang. “We are pleased to work with Fortissimo Films on this film. I know that they will give it all of the attention and support that this crowd-pleasing film deserves.”

Fortissimo chairman Michael J. Werner negotiated with acquisition with Fortissimo’s Hong Kong-based Esther Yeung. The company will commence sales at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.
