20th Century Fox and director James Cameron are planning “Avatar Day” for August 21.

On that day, the trailer for Cameron’s new epic will launch and also select cinemas (including IMAX screens) will screen extended footage from the film, in 3-D.

The trailer will be available online as well as worldwide in all formats including IMAX 3-D, IMAX 2-D, digital 3-D, digital 2-D and 35mm 2-D.

Also on Avatar Day, Ubisoft will unveil the trailer for the game inspired by the film, and Mattell will reveal two action figures.

Avatar, Cameron’s passion project for more than a decade that has been in prodctoin for four years, launches worldwide on December 18. The film is about humans battling the indigenous population of a distant planet. The cast includes Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana and Giovanni Ribisi.
