Fox has announced that it will release My Name Is Khan, starring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, in more than 40 territories on February 12, 2010, to coincide with Valentine’s Day weekend.
Directed by Karan Johar, the film also stars Kajol, marking the first time in eight years that the actress has worked with Shah Rukh Khan, following five popular on-screen pairings. Khan plays an unconventional hero in the film who embarks on a journey across America in order to win back the love of his life.
Fox Star Studios will release the film in India, Fox Searchlight in the US and Fox in the other 38 territories, which also include the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East. Other remaining territories will release in early spring/summer 2010.
“What makes My Name is Khan a very special film is that it brings together the finest Indian talent with a powerful story that has relevance for audiences everywhere,” said Fox Star Studios CEO Vijay Singh.
Fox Star Studios previously released Slumdog Millionaire in India, which Fox Searchlight released in the US, but My Name Is Khan marks the first film backed by Fox Star which Fox has given a global release.
