Motherboard documentary travels to Liberia to uncover the real monkey island.
20th Century Fox and VICE’s Motherboard have released Island of the Apes.
The documentary travels to Liberia to explore an isolated area inhabited solely by former lab-tested chimpanzees who have survived both disease and two civil wars, and today instil fear in their neighbouring communities.
It also features an interview with Betsy Brotman, one-half of the testing facility’s founding couple, who speaks for the first time on why her views on animal testing have dramatically changed.
Fox and VICE have also unveiled Before the Dawn, a trilogy of scripted short films inspired by the ten years between Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
