Bennett Miller’s psychological drama starring Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo will finally get its close-up at the festival after it was pulled from last year’s edition.
Foxcatcher had been scheduled to receive its world premiere at AFI FEST 2013 before it was pulled to allow Miller more time to finish it.
Co-financier Megan Ellison was the one who initially reassured the filmmaker that he should take his time and the film eventually premiered in Cannes this year. SPC will distribute in North America.
Foxcatcher recounts the true story of Olympic wrestling champion brothers Mark Schultz and Dave Schultz and their relationship with the eccentric heir to the du Pont Chemical fortune John du Pont that led to murder. Vanessa Redgrave and Sienna Miller round out the key cast.
“Bennett Miller and the film’s incredible cast are going to close the festival and our last night at the iconic Dolby Theatre with an enthralling psychological drama that is one of the highlights of American independent filmmaking this year,” said AFI FEST director Jacqueline Lyanga.
As previously announced, the world premiere of J C Chandor’s A Most Violent Year will open the festival. Sophia Loren will receive a tribute on November 6.
AFI FEST will run from November 6-13.
