French cinema enjoyed yet another impressive weekend in the international arena as two comedies accounted for 12.7% of the international top 40 revenue.

New entry Disco was the highest entry in the chart this weekend, coming in at number two with an $8.7m take from Belgium, France and Switzerland. The film, which stars Emmanuelle Beart and Gerard Depardieu, enjoyed an impressive $10,080 screen average from 861 screens. It is the ninth feature from director Fabien Onteniente, whose 2006 film Camping took nearly $36m in its home territory. Disco is released through Studio Canal.

Pathe's holdover title Bienvenue Chez Les Ch'tis continues to show its muscle and remains in the top five in its sixth weekend. The Dany Boon comedy fell 38% with a $7.4m take from 996 screens for a $7,424 screen average. It has generated a mammoth $168.1m from just three territories.

Chinese-language film Three Kingdoms: Resurrection Of The Dragon shot to number three in its opening weekend. The epic, based on the 14th Century Chinese historical novel Romance Of The Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong (dubbed one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature), grossed $7.7m from 1,176 screens for a $6,513 screen average. It has generated more than $9m from six territories, including previews. The film is directed by Daniel Lee (Dragon Squad) and stars Andy Lau and Maggie Q.

South Korea's single offering this weekend, The Guard Post, opened just out of the top 20 with a $2.3m take from 369 screens. The military thriller, directed by Kong Soo-chang, had a $6,301 screen average and has taken more than $2.7m, including previews, in its home territory alone. It is directed by Kong Soo-chang and is distributed by Showbox/Mediaplex.

Indian film Jalsa trailed just behind at number 22 after opening in seven territories at the weekend. The romantic comedy took $2.2m from 454 screens for a $4,797 screen average and has taken $4.6m to date, with previews. It is written and directed by Trivikram Srinivas (Athadu) and stars Pawan Kalyan and Mukesh Rishi. It is released through Geetha Arts.

UK-French co-production Son Of Rambow proved a tremendous hit on UK shores - the comedy took $1.7m from 308 sites for a $5,795 screen average, putting it at number two at the British box office, trailing just behind holdover title 27 Dresses.The quirky film about childhood friendship is distributed in the territory through Optimum Releasing and is being sold worldwide through Celluloid Dreams. It is written and directed by Garth Jennings, whose 2005 hit The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy took $104.5m worldwide.

Additional UK co-productions that dotted the chart this weekend include The Other Boleyn Girl, which took $2.8m at the weekend, and The Golden Compass, which generated $1.7m.

Polish comedy Nie Klam Kochanie continued its strong local performance with a $1.7m take from just 156 screens in its home territory. The film boasted the weekend's highest screen average at a mammoth $11,131 despite falling 20%. It has generated $4.7m after two weekends on release.

Two Italian holdovers sat at the bottom of the chart - Tutta La Vita Davanti fell 13% in its second weekend with a $1.5m take while Winx Club: Il Segreto Del Regno Perduto re-entered with a $1.3m take after opening in France. Tutta, released by Medusa Film, played on 352 screens in its home territory and has a $3.8m cumulative total while Winx boasts a $10.6m total after 20 weekends on release.

Elsewhere, Fox's Horton Hears A Who! remained at the top with a $10.7m take but took a mere $1,908 in each of the 5,617 screens it played across in 51 territories. It has taken $90m after four weekends on release. And UTV Communication's Race suffered the steepest weekend drop - at 63% - with a near $2m take from 14 territories.

The top 40 international films generated $126.9m across 42,261 screens from the period of April 4-6.
