The Great Gatsby has crossed $100m at the North American box office on its 14th day of release, Warner Bros announced on Friday [24].
Baz Lurhmann’s adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel stands at $64.4m internationally following the launch in 49 territories last weekend.
The lavish retelling of the 1920s tale opened the Cannes Film Festival on May 15 and by May 24 the worldwide tally including the $100.7m domestic haul had reached $165.1m.
“The strength of the international opening is a testament to Baz Luhrmann and everyone involved in the film,” said president of international distribution Veronika Kwan Vandenberg. “The movie’s spectacular Cannes launch truly set the stage for the summer of Gatsby around the world.”
