Gaumont has sealed deals early at AFM on its horror movie Splice with Senator in Germany and Seville/Entertainment in Canada.

Directed by Vincenzo Natali, Splice stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley. The producer is Steven Hoban (Black Christmas, Ginger Snaps). The executive producers are Guillermo del Toro and Don Murphy

The $26 million yarn, billed as the 'Bonnie And Clyde of genetics,' is about two young scientists who become superstars by splicing different animal DNA to create fantastical new creatures. Problems start when they ignore the legal and ethical boundaries and introduce human DNA into their experiments.

Natali has assembled a crack team of technicians including visual effects artist Phil Tippet (Hellboy 2), prosthetics and make-up artist Gordon Smith (X Men), production designer Todd Cherniansky (War Of The Worlds) and director of photography Tetsuo Nagata (La Vie En Rose).

'Vincenzo is taking Splice to really edgy places. The moment I cringed while reading the script, I knew I wanted to help him realize his vision. He understands that true horror needs to be morally dangerous,' commented Del Toro.

Shooting starts at the end of November with delivery due in early 2009. GM
