Global Screen is to handle international sales for Ulysses Filmproduktion’s 3D CGI animation film Oops! Noah Is Gone… which is expected to go into production at the end of year as a co-production with Belgium, Luxembourg and Ireland.
The Telepool half of the Global Screen joint venture has already had other animation co-productions involving Hamburg-based Ulysses on its books, such as Niko & The Way To The Stars, Legends of Valhalla: Thor, and Niko 2: Family Affairs which is scheduled to open at the end of this year as a Christmas release.
Ulysses will be working in Hamburg with Studio Rakete (previously known as Pictorion Magma Animation) on Oops! 45 animators are currently working there on Niko 2, and the company recently handled the 2D animation for Ari Folman’s next feature film The Congress.
The importance of the animation sector for Hamburg’s film landscape was underscored at the last funding session of FilmFörderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein when the awards committee allocated € 1m production funding to Oops! The project had already been supported by a special Hamburg Senate programme during its development.
In addition, a second Hamburg animation studio TRIKK 17 Animationsraum was awarded €750,000 by the funding committee for its stop-motion animation feature film Out Of The Woods whose screenplay has been written by Cameron Fraser and Neil Jack of Edinburgh-based stop-frame animation studio Ko Lik Films. Oscar-nominated producer Bob Last (The Illusionist) of Ink Digital will co-produce.
