Fledgling Indian production and distribution company Golden Gate Creations is set to release its first feature Soch Lo (Think About It!).
Golden Gate was founded by actress Barkha Madan and chartered accountant Vivek Kumar and has established offices in Mumbai and Los Angeles.
The company is supported by QLab and media partner www.indianentertainment.info and plans to work on a film and television slate appealing to the global South Asian audiences.
Soch Lo will open in select US theatres on August 27. It stars Sartaj Singh Pannu as a man who wakes up abandoned and bloody in the desert without any recollection of who he is. Madan will play a stranger who tries to help him rediscover his identity. Newcomers Iris Maity, Nishan Nanaiah, Himanshu Kohli, and Bhupinder Singh also star.
Pannu wrote and directed the film, which will be released day-and-date in India through Sun Entertainment. The Times Group will release the soundtrack later in the month.
“Our goal is to model the company after the highly successful Merchant Ivory production house and remain true to our Indian roots,” Kumar said. “There are so few opportunities for our cultural Indian fare to be seen and it is important to us that we create this platform to reach their intended audience,” Madan added.
Madan, a former Miss India finallist, has starred in a number of popular television soaps and her feature credits include Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Bhoot, and the Indian-Dutch production Driving Miss Palmen.
Kumar is a graduate of the UCLA Writers Program and recently worked on Oscar winning composer AR Rahman’s World Tour 2010.
