Hong Kong-based Golden Network Asia has picked up international rights to $13m fantasy action picture Mural, written and directed by Gordon Chan.
Starring Deng Chao, Sun Li, Yan Ni and action star Collin Chou, the film tells the story of a young scholar and his servant who are transported into the fantasy world of a mural they find in an old temple.
The film, which is under-going a lengthy post-production process to complete high-end special effects, is produced by Beijing-based Enlight Pictures, the four-year-old film arm of Wang Changtian’s TV production company Enlight Media Group. Chan, one of Hong Kong’s leading action directors, works as a consultant for the company.
Chan co-directed with Danny Ko and other behind-the-scenes talent includes award-winning DoP Mark Lee Ping-bin (Norwegian Wood).
Golden Network’s pan-Asian slate also includes Malaysian animation Seefood and horror title Forbidden; award-winning Chinese drama The Piano In A Factory; Hong Kong martial arts comedy Gallants, and action title The Kick from Thai director Prachya Pinkaew (Ong Bak).
The company is also selling Fox International Productions’ The Butcher, The Chef And The Swordsman, directed by Wuershan. Golden Network chief Carrie Wong also oversees Chinese production for FIP.
