At the 6th Asian Film Market, Thai sales company Gmm Tai Hub Company Limited (GTH) has presold The Billionaire to CT Chakawara for Indonesia, Bees Factory for Taiwan and GV for Singapore.
Inspired by a true story, the film is about a teenage boy who goes from successful online gaming to bankruptcy to becoming a billionaire in his twenties as a seaweed entrepreneur.
The film is due to open in Bangkok theatres Oct 20, 2011.
“The Billionaire sold on the basis of the trailer and the reputation of the star Pachara Chirathivat who is well-known in the regions of Indonesia, Taiwan and Singapore for his role in Suck Seed, which was released in the area,” says Ruedee Pholthaweechai, GTH associate international director. “GTH is also becoming something of a brand name as people have come to know what to expect from us.”
The film is directed by Songyos Sugmakanan, whose film credits include Phobia 2 (Episode: Backpackers), Hormones, Dorm, and My Girl.
GTH also has the horror film Laddaland in the Busan International Film Festival’s Midnght Passion section. Made by the producers of 4bia, the film was previously released in Thailand and parts of Southeast Asia and became the company’s biggest hit around the region.
