2011 edition expands to include in competition shorts section
The fourth Gulf Film Festival (April 14 – 20) in Dubai is expanding to include an in competition international shorts section.
While the festival’s main competition section, the Gulf Competition, only accepts films by Gulf filmmakers or international filmmakers with films that showcase the region, the inaugural International Competition for Short Films will be open to all films and filmmakers from around the world.
In the inaugural International Competition for Short Films, first, second, and third placed directors will receive cash prizes, with the winner awarded AED25,000 ($6,800).
Festival director, Masoud Amralla Al Ali said of the addition: “Short films are a compelling art form that capture the dynamism of cinema within a short span of time. By inviting international talent to the Gulf Film Festival, we want to highlight the diverse approaches in short filmmaking across the world.”
