US filmmaker Gus van Sant will serve as the president of the International Jury for this year’s KunstFilmBiennale.
The festival, which runs from October 38 to November 1, 2009 will be held in Cologne and Bonn.
British filmmaker Isaac Julien, Harun Farocki, the Berlin-based filmmaker, and Düsseldorf collector Julia Stoschek have also been confirmed as members of the International Competition jury. The line-up aims to reflect the cross over between visual arts and cinema.
The KunstFilmBiennale’s many sidebars will feature a showcase of the work of the New York director and cinematographer Ed Lachmann - with screenings of Desperately Seeking Susan, Nick’s Movie,Ken Park and the Dylan biography I’m Not There - as well as a retrospective dedicated to the Swiss video artist Pipilotti Rist, the winner of this year’s Prix Joan Miro in Barcelona.
The event is backed by SK Stiftung Kultur, the NRW Arts Foundation and the City of Cologne in cooperation with Filmstiftung NRW and VG Bild-Kunst and supported by Peer Steinbruck, the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia.
